Director James Kleinert was a member of the US Freestyle Ski Team for eight years and was consistently placed in the top ten on the World Cup tour. During his competition career he documented over 60 hours of World Cup and Olympic freestyle skiing footage and produced Living It! He was awarded the "Best New Filmmaker of the Year" at the 1994 International Ski Film Festival.

Avalanche Ski Patrol

Witness the daring "sweep missions" performed by the men and women of the Snowbird Advanced Avalanche Patrol. These are the unheard heroes who work diligently to keep the slopes safe for all of those who enjoy skiing.

Capturing the extreme danger of avalanche, Kleinert has a complete 30 minute documentary of the Snowbird Ski Patrol in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The men and women of the patrol faced daily heroic measures to keep the slopes safe. Kleinert ran numerous "Sweep Missions" where high powered guns and hand charges set off avalanches. Chief the avalanche rescue dog showed great teamwork between the human and canine kingdoms demonstrating precision rescue techniques.

Kleinert was the Manager of the US Aerial Training Center at Bear Hollow in Park City Utah. During this time he produced competitions and acrobatic performances. Through his Aerialist eyes, James captures the best of freestyle skiing and this shows in his work History of Freestyle Skiing.

Kleinert coached for Snowbird and Deer Valley at the National Sports Foundation for Freestyle Skiing. He documented many hours of kids and young adults training and competing in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. These films were used to understand the Sport of Freestyle Skiing and to teach others the art.
